Japan Itinerary 10 Days: Complete 10 Day Travel Plan

10 Days

Planning a 10-day trip to Japan feels exciting. But it also feels overwhelming.

Where do you stay? What do you skip? How do you get from city to city without wasting time?

We have done the hard work for you.

This is our complete Japan itinerary for 10 days. It covers everything you need for a smooth, well-planned trip across Tokyo, Kiso Valley, and Kyoto.

We designed this package after planning dozens of Japan trips for first-time and repeat travelers. Every detail has been thought through so you do not have to.

With us, you get the best hotels, the right trains, top sights, full transport planning using the JR Pass, and practical tips. All in one place. All taken care of.

This 10-day Japan itinerary takes you through Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, and Osaka. Every stop is chosen with the purpose to give you a full, real feel of Japan.

Night breakdown: Tokyo (3 nights), Hakone (1 night), Kyoto (3 nights), Osaka (2 nights).

Tokyo brings energy, skylines, and street food culture. Hakone brings mountain air, hot springs, and clear views of Mount Fuji.

Kyoto brings ancient temples, bamboo forests, and traditional Japan at its most preserved. Osaka wraps it up with bold flavors, loud markets, and a city that never slows down.

Best time to visit: Spring (March to May) for cherry blossoms or Autumn (October to November) for fall foliage. Avoid mid-August and Golden Week if you dislike crowds and inflated prices.

Getting around: A 14-day JR Pass is included. It covers all Shinkansen bullet train rides between cities. Local transit cards handle subway and bus travel within each destination.

Stays: A mix of modern city hotels in Tokyo, a traditional ryokan in Hakone, a quiet inn near Gion in Kyoto, and a central hotel in Osaka. Every property is picked for comfort, value, and location.

Highlights

  • Days 1 to 3: Tokyo, energy, culture, and food. Walk through Shinjuku, visit Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, explore Shibuya and Harajuku, and eat your way through Tsukiji Outer Market. Tokyo moves fast, and there is always something around the next corner.
  • Day 4: Hakone, mountains and hot springs. Take the Romancecar train out of the city, soak in an onsen with a Mount Fuji view, and breathe in air that feels nothing like Tokyo. A slower, quieter day that resets the whole trip.
  • Days 5 to 7: Kyoto, temples, tradition, and quiet beauty. Visit Fushimi Inari, walk the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, explore Kinkaku-ji, and wander through the stone-paved lanes of Gion at dusk. This is old Japan at its most intact.
  • Days 8 to 9: Osaka, food, noise, and nightlife. Dotonbori, Kuromon Market, Osaka Castle, and street food on every block. Takoyaki, ramen, and kushikatsu are all part of the plan. Osaka is the most relaxed city on the itinerary and one of the most fun.
  • Day 10: Nara day trip or departure. Those with an early flight can head straight to Kansai Airport. Those with time to spare can make a quick stop in Nara to walk among the free-roaming deer and visit Todai-ji before heading home.
