Hong Kong 3 Day Itinerary Best Travel Guide

3 Days

Planning a Hong Kong 3-day itinerary from scratch can feel overwhelming. The city moves fast, options are many, and one wrong turn wastes half a day.

We have designed this itinerary after planning dozens of Hong Kong trips for first-time and repeat travelers. We know which routes work, which areas save you time, and which spots deliver real value.

This guide covers where to stay, how to get around, what to see, and how much to spend. A clear day-by-day plan with real cost estimates and tips that actually help.

Trip Overview

This three-day plan covers Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island, and Kowloon. Each area has its own feel, and the route moves between them without wasting time. An optional Macau day trip fits right into Day 3 if you want more variety.

Plan your visit between October and December or March and May for the best weather. Humidity drops, temperatures stay comfortable, and crowds are easier to manage.

Getting around is simple. The MTR connects most of the city, and ferries cover the islands. Pick up an Octopus Card at the airport. It works on the MTR, buses, and ferries. Stay near Central or Kowloon for fast access to everything on this itinerary.

Trip Highlights

  • Day 1: Victoria Peak skyline views, the Peak Tram, street art in Central, Man Mo Temple, Temple Street Night Market, and the Symphony of Lights at Victoria Harbour.
  • Day 2: Ngong Ping Cable Car, Tian Tan Buddha, Po Lin Monastery, and Tai O Fishing Village on Lantau Island. A quieter, more scenic day away from the city.
  • Day 3: Two options. Stay in Kowloon for Wong Tai Sin Temple, Nan Lian Garden, and local markets. Or take a ferry to Macau for the Ruins of St. Paul and Senado Square.
