I still remember stepping off the plane in Hong Kong for the first time, completely unsure where to begin.
We have designed this itinerary after planning dozens of Hong Kong trips for first-time and repeat travelers.
The city felt massive, layered, and full of things pulling me in every direction. After years of helping travelers plan their trips here, I can say with confidence that one week is the sweet spot.
This guide is built on real experience, not guesswork.
I have put together a 7-day plan that balances the skyline, the islands, the culture, and yes, even Disneyland, so you can make the most of every single day without feeling rushed or lost.
Hong Kong Trip Overview
Hong Kong blends modern skyline, cultural heritage, and island escapes into one well-rounded destination.
The ideal route runs from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon, then out to Lantau Island, with a day for the outer islands. This flow takes you from the city center into local neighborhoods, then outward for nature and theme parks.
Best time to visit: October to December for cool, clear weather. March to April is also pleasant before the humid summer begins.Getting around: The MTR covers most areas quickly and affordably. Ferries connect the islands, and the historic tram along Hong Kong Island is both practical and worth riding.
